Boyracer Complains Court Is Wasting His Time After Dangerous Driving Conviction

A young boyracer caught driving so dangerously he could have killed someone told a judge he was annoyed at how much time court was taking out of his day.

Angus McDonald, 20, appeared in the Invercargill District Court on Thursday, 11 July 2025, after being charged over a reckless late-night driving incident that put lives at risk.

According to court documents, McDonald was seen speeding, swerving, and treating public roads like a racetrack. His actions were described as “extremely dangerous” and completely devoid of regard for public safety.

But when it came time to face the consequences, McDonald wasn’t apologising. Instead, he complained that the legal process was dragging on too long and interfering with his other commitments.

“I’ve got things to do,” he reportedly told the court, visibly frustrated at having to wait for his case to be called.

Judge Duncan Harvey was not impressed. He told McDonald that his driving could easily have led to serious injury or death, and said his attitude showed a disturbing lack of understanding about how serious the charges were.

McDonald was convicted and disqualified from driving for six months. He was also issued a stern warning: if he appeared before the court again for similar offences, the penalties would be much more severe.

Police said McDonald’s case was yet another example of the ongoing problem with dangerous driving among young motorists, particularly those involved in illegal street racing or so-called “boyracer” culture. Authorities say they continue to crack down on hooning and reckless driving, warning that such behaviour can have devastating consequences for innocent road users.

As for McDonald, his final words in court weren’t about taking responsibility — just that the whole thing had taken up too much of his time.
