Two 19-year-old men have been charged with the murder of 18-year-old Tyreece Te Pairi, who was fatally stabbed in central Hamilton late last month.
Te Pairi was found bleeding on Victoria Street just before midnight on 20 July 2025. Emergency services rushed him to Waikato Hospital, but he died shortly after arrival.
The two accused, both from the Waikato region, appeared in Hamilton District Court this week. Wearing standard-issue prison clothing, they stood in the dock as the murder charge was read. Neither entered a plea.
Judge Noel Cocurullo remanded both men in custody until their next appearance on 26 August. Suppression orders prevent the publication of further identifying details at this stage.
The killing has shaken Hamilton’s late-night community. Several nearby bars and restaurants closed early the following night, staff citing unease after the violence. Police say they have spoken to more than a dozen witnesses and are still reviewing CCTV footage from the area.
Detective Senior Sergeant Andrew Saunders called the incident “a senseless act that has left a young man dead and a family grieving.” He urged anyone with further information to come forward.
The investigation remains active, with more charges possible as evidence is processed.
