He thought it was just banter — the students thought otherwise.

A 68-year-old relief teacher, Graham Reinheimer, has been censured after being recorded by a group of 15-year-old boys boasting about his sex life, including describing his favourite position as “doggy style” and answering questions about his “body count”.

The exchange, caught on a student’s cellphone, saw Reinheimer use a “one beep for yes, two for no” system to answer questions about sex, before telling the class to keep the discussion secret.

Four days later, a parent heard the recording on their son’s phone and complained to the school. An investigation followed, and the case was referred to the Teachers’ Disciplinary Tribunal.

Reinheimer admitted losing control of the class and said the boys had “cyber-baited” him — deliberately pushing him until he cracked while filming on their phones. He told the tribunal the chat had “briefly transformed awkwardly into learner-led, candid banter.”

Students said the conversation quickly turned uncomfortable. One described it as “weird” and “braggy”, another called it “inappropriate, irrelevant, and childish.”

The Complaints Assessment Committee said Reinheimer’s conduct crossed a clear line. “Communicating with learners about very personal and sexual matters without a valid context is a breach of professional boundaries,” its report said.

The tribunal found Reinheimer remorseful but noted he tried to blame the students. “It is his responsibility alone to shut down or redirect the conversation,” the panel said.

Reinheimer was formally censured, ordered to complete a professional boundaries course, and must show future employers a copy of the ruling.

He’s no longer on the school’s reliever list.
