Two men have been charged after more than $100,000 worth of kiwifruit pollen was allegedly stolen from a Kerikeri property.
A 35-year-old man appeared in Kaikohe District Court charged with receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
A 42-year-old man has also been charged with receiving stolen property and is due to appear in Kaikohe District Court on May 8.
Police say the theft was reported after pollen and tools were taken from a commercial property on State Highway 10 on April 7.
The investigation took a turn on April 21 when officers attended an unrelated family harm incident in Waitangi.
During that incident, officers allegedly found a stolen fuel card and other suspicious items inside a vehicle.
That discovery led police to investigate further.
Search warrants were later carried out at three Kerikeri addresses, where officers recovered a significant quantity of the stolen kiwifruit pollen.
Police also located a stolen 1962 Hillman Humber 80, a loaded .222 rifle, ammunition, a trailer, solar batteries, timber, foreign currency, and power tools.
Police say further charges have not been ruled out as inquiries continue.
Kiwifruit pollen is a high-value product used during pollination season to improve fruit yields, making it a valuable target for theft in growing regions such as Northland and the Bay of Plenty.
