Brent Keith, 57, has been sentenced in the Oamaru District Court after pleading guilty to doing an indecent act in a public toilet involving a 15-year-old boy.
Keith appeared before Judge Campbell Savage, who sentenced him to three months’ community detention and 12 months’ intensive supervision.
The offending took place at public toilets in Itchen St, Oamaru, shortly after 6pm on February 7.
A police summary of facts states a 15-year-old boy, who did not know Keith, was using one of the cubicles when Keith entered the toilets.
Keith positioned himself beside the cubicle and looked through a gap in the wall.
He then carried out an indecent act while the boy was still inside the cubicle.
The teenager left the toilets shortly afterwards and reported being shocked by what had occurred. Keith was described as smiling as the boy left.
The matter was later brought before the Oamaru District Court, where Keith admitted the charge.
Judge Savage imposed a sentence of three months’ community detention and 12 months’ intensive supervision.
The case involved a public toilet facility in central Oamaru used by members of the public.
